Today is BlogSecret day! Below is a post by another blogger, my secret is on somebody else's blog. I welcome all new readers, old readers and comments. I will resume my regular posts in a day or two when I am back from another east coast meeting.
Special thanks to Nilsa for doing all the hard work and letting bloggers feel free to share. For a full list of participants head over to her blog for the re-cap

I'm actually getting incredibly tired of the whole bar scene (and justthe drinking/drug scene in general) but I think I'd lose over half of my friends if I stopped going out. I live in a small city with an inflated ego, where perpetual adolescence is not only acceptable, but condoned. I know people in their late 30's who are still shamelessly hitting up dance clubs packed with freshmen with fake IDs... and it's not even considered creepy. It's just what you do on Saturdays.
How sad is it that, not only do I need to be well-supported by a flask of cheap vodka to approach a guy, but I also need it to maintain mysocial life?

You know how teachers used to say there's never a stupid question, because in all likelihood someone else is wondering the same thing? Well, I wonder whether the same concept is true with your friends ... that there are others who are sick and tired of the party scene and are ready to jump ship ... if only they had a leader (hint hint)!
I think Nilsa is on to something...
Ditto to Nilsa entire comment!!
Winds of change are here! Embrace them, my friend. You DON'T have to continue to live that way if you don't want to and I think perhaps being one of the first to "grow up" would give you some of that confidence that you seem to think you're lacking.
Once again, Nilsa has great advice. I would imagine that even in a smaller city there are tons of things to do that don't involve the bar scene. Maybe I'm just a geek but I like mini golf, and random crap like that. Good luck with seperating yourself from the party scene!
Small town life is a hard one, because it feels like there are no other options, or if there are, they need to be so carefully laid out. I bet more people feel this way than you realize, though...
Why is Nilsa always so wise?
Oof. Are those friends you really want to keep if they won't be your friend if you don't go out boozing each weekend?
You'd be better off without such friends.. Take the high road.. do what you think is right for you!
